The Federal Communications Commission is mandating all public safety and industrial/business licensees must convert existing 25 kHz efficiency operations in VHF and UHF to minimum 12.5 kHz efficiency analog or digital operation by January 1, 2013.

 What action is needed?

• You must have radios that are 12.5 kHz capable.  Motorola radios certified since 1997 are 12.5 kHz capable.
• Identify radios that can be reprogrammed. Download a list of capable Motorola radios.

• Identify radios that need to be replaced with new 12.5 kHz capable radios.

• Develop operational and funding plans to replace equipment that is not capable of operating at 12.5 kHz efficiency.

• Update existing FCC licenses to 12.5 kHz.
