DTR650 Programming

One of the biggests benefits of the Motorola DTR650, is that each radio can be programmed with it’s own unique ID, letting each radio be easily identified during radio-to-radio communications and emergency situations.

When the radio fleet is then expanded and new radios are added, all the new radio ID’s must be added to the existing radios to open up communications between them. This task is easily accomplished with Over-the-Air Programming.

Before Getting Started

There are a few steps to take before beginning the update.

First, make sure all the new radios have been programmed with your existing programming file. You can check this by scrolling through the new radio’s contact list to ensure all of your existing contacts are pre-loaded.

Then, it’s best to gather all the existing radios in one location since they need to be turned on and within range in order for the update to be successful.

Now that the new radios have their initial programming and all the radios (new & existing) are ON and within transmission range, it is time to start the full fleet programming update.

First Step: Access Cloning Mode

You need to enter Cloning Mode to begin. To access this mode, perform the following sequence:
  1. Hold down the HOME button, and while holding, press the PTT button 3 times.
  2. Immediately press the LEFT button
  3. Followed by the UP ARROW
  4. And then the RIGHT button
  5. Again, hold down the HOME button, and press the PTT button 3 times.

The Clone Menu should now be in your display. If not, hit the HOME button to return to the main screen, and try steps 1-5 again until successful.

Second: Add Contacts

Once in Cloning Mode, go to:

REMOTE ADD CONTACTS

Then change these settings:

Add: ALL
To: ALL

And finally, select: PGRM

This will prompt all the radios to add the ID / Contact for all surrounding DTR650’s into their Contact List; now allowing for PTT communication between the new radio and the existing ones.

Troubleshooting

If for some reason, one of the radios does not process the new ID’s, you can perform the above steps again, but using the specific ID’s in place of ALL in the Add & To options.

For example, let's say a radio labeled GARY did not add a new radio contact: SALLY. You would then run the programming again with the SALLY radio, using these in the following fields:

Add: SALLY
To: GARY

This will hone in on those specific radio ID’s and allow for a more concentrated programming update.
